Web design basics. Analysis of the main blocks on the site

From the author: I greet you, dear reader! In this article, I propose to consider the basics of web design, or rather, the main blocks of the site. External beauty plays a crucial role in the development of the layout, however, usability should not be forgotten either. Following the tips listed below, you will learn how to create not only beautiful sites, but also convenient ones.

A true web design master 2.0 should be able to surprise people with innovative thinking and a creative approach to solving tasks. However, this does not mean that you need to pop into the background of the site of flying dragons in order to attract the attention of users.

People come to the site not to see designer brushstrokes on canvas, but for content. Therefore, your thoughts should be directed entirely to the development of competent usability. The basics of successful web-design are convenience and aesthetics. Until this idea pierces your heart like Cupid’s arrow, the love of a good customer, alas, cannot be found.

If you have been boiling for a long time in the career of a web designer, you probably know that one of the most important roles in creating a convenient site is played by the competent design of blocks (modules). They are the structural elements of a web page. The standard modular grid consists of a navigation menu, a header, a main information zone (content) and a footer.

Hat
The hat is considered one of the main elements on the site, thanks to which it is remembered by users. Often, web designers seek to invest the entire creative flow in this zone, based on beautiful images that have nothing to do with the subject of the project.

You have probably come across various page backgrounds in the form of galaxies, blue cloudy sky, grass, or all kinds of abstractions. Such decisions are already considered a stamp, which is a sign of bad taste. You can create an attractive and effective, from the point of view of benefit, hat even without the use of any images. Consider my words as an example of a fairly simple template.

The first step is to remove the inappropriate background image in the form of grass.

You can already notice how much, due to a simple action, the visual focus on the main content block of the site has increased. This is the basics of web design. Look for simple solutions, not complex ones.

The cap should not take up too much space so that the user does not have to spend extra time and nerves constantly scrolling down while moving to a new page. By the way, even the developers of popular browsers decided to cancel a large number of options in the upper block to provide people with more comfortable working conditions. The hat should be so high that it does not squeeze the logo. Often, 120 pixels is enough.

After we removed the ridiculous grassy background, you should shorten the cap. We place the logo in a more appropriate form to save additional space. By the way, try to avoid round and curved elements on your site. Rarely there are cases when they would look harmonious. We use rectangular monitors, so the corresponding type of blocks will look an order of magnitude more appropriate. I recommend only rounding off corners.

After removing the background, the background became too dark. This option also does not suit us, because we do not forget about an important point in the basics of web design – aesthetics. A similar background will put pressure on the psyche of users, so we replace it with a lighter version.

So that the hat does not look empty, we supplement the free space with the company’s slogan and phone numbers.
You can also add a registration form and access to the site, an advertising banner, etc. Here it all depends on your preferences and customer requirements.

Information block (content)
Based on the basics of web design, the content block of each site should assume a certain structure. However, many of the sites existing on the Internet were developed by people who are far from this direction. Such online resources are often waterfalls of unreadable text, diluted with graphic images that no one even plans to align on one side.

The key principles of building content are approximately similar to the basics of creating a design for a site: a text page should be harmoniously laid out and structured. It is also important to highlight its key details (heading, subtitle, etc.).

Break texts into paragraphs. Such a decision will contribute to a softer perception of information. Moreover, try to structure the text so that each paragraph has in its composition no more than 6 lines. Do not bend over with the amount of image. They should only smoothly supplement the text in those moments when visualization is necessary.
