Popular web design styles

From the author: hello friends! How often do you have to visit sites that are scared to order products because their design leaves much to be desired? Imagine the situation: you order a taxi, and some kind of “tarantochka” comes to you, so old that it’s scary to ride on it. So it is with sites. It seems to me that all the features of design in real life can be transferred to the field of web design. Let’s look at what styles of web design exist and how to put them into practice.

Site Style Classification
There is currently no unified classification of web design styles. And this is not surprising: each resource is unique in many respects, and the style of the site is not an exact science and does not have clearly established rules. We outline the main criteria by which sites can be classified:

Structure (minimalistic, complex, 2-3-column);

Color gamut (black and white, multi-colored, light, dark);

The number and level of graphics (standard, clean, artistic);

Subject or decoration (magazine style, gothic, cartoon style, futurism, retro, classic, grunge, etc.).

As you already understood, in design, like in other types of art, there are a huge number of artistic directions, ranging from the Romanesque style of the 10th century to futurism. In general, in the styles of web design now there is complete confusion, as for me.

Some people think that by creating a portal with a 3-column structure, they are laying a new direction in design. And if you dig deeper, it turns out that they don’t even know which style their site belongs to, and what they are. Let’s get it right.

Site structure
A site with a minimal structure is either concentrated on some main element, or consists of one 1-column page;

2 and 3 column structures are more common. They can be used in various types of sites: blogs, information, corporate, etc .;

complex structures are usually created for Internet portals, news sites and other resources containing many blocks and columns.

The structure of the site must necessarily correspond to the resolution of the monitor on which the user will view it. Web design masters are well aware that the most popular resolution is 1280×1024, which is why it is necessary to adapt to it in the first place when creating a style in web design.

You can, of course, make a rubber layout that will stretch across the entire width of the screen. However, this option has its drawbacks compared to the fixed one. Firstly, a rubber layout costs many times more. Secondly, on monitors with high resolution, all elements of the site will creep up, and the information on it will be distorted.

A more sophisticated version of the rubber is the responsive design. It can display a different number of speakers, depending on the resolution of the monitor.

Decoration
I urge everyone who continues to clutter up their site with special effects to urgently stop. This trend has long been a thing of the past. The modern style in web design does not welcome crazy backgrounds, flickering sliders, or music screensavers.

Both web developers and users have long passed the stage of denying minimalism and realized that the simplicity and cleanliness of a site is the key to its maximum convenience, functionality and a bewitching aesthetics. Sites devoid of bells and whistles load many times faster and keep the user’s attention in focus longer, which favorably affects the ranking and conversion.

But do not confuse simplicity with boredom! The style of website design should be fresh, original, attractive. I will offer you some interesting styles that will be useful for both beginner web designers and experienced professionals who are in search of inspiration.

Hipster style (grunge)
This dark and brutal style is one of the most popular today in web design. I am personally delighted with its uncouth elements.

This style fits perfectly with the idea of minimalism. It is characterized by a combination of sharp shapes with rounded corners and clean, or harsh urban backgrounds.

Within this style, you can also demonstrate real home-made things (village signs, brick walls, wooden planks, virtual ribbons, stamps) as background images.

Minimalism
The secret to the unquenchable popularity of minimalist sites is to focus on content rather than design. On a neutral background, fonts look sharper and product images look brighter.
